Transcendence by Chuck Melville

I was doodling, with just a vague idea of a unicorn in meditation seeking transcendence, but I wasn't satisfied with it; the composition wasn't working for me, so I put it away.

I might try the concept again, though...

Medium: Colored Pencils
Tags: unicorn light meditation
The Sorceress Of Katara by Chuck Melville

Another figure from the Katara histories, known by many names: the Artisan, the Seeker, the Wisar, and at the end, simply as the Sorceress. Figures in a lot of the stories. Her younger self is featured in the SEEKER'S QUEST webcomic. This was one of the early concept drawings.

Medium: Colored Pencils
Tags: cat dawn sorceress Tower sunrise Seeker wisar
Felicia - The Vixen Sorceress by Chuck Melville

The image I chose for the new book, VIXEN SORCERESS (https://www.createspace.com/3360703 or through Amazon.com)... It's a tweaking of the image I originally used for ZU #13 several years ago, a collage done in Photoshop. The candle and flame were drawn digitally, Felicia and the butterfly were taken from photos, the walls in the background are taken from clip-art that was run through a filter, and the vapors were added with a rendering filter. Originally there had been a dancing fox attached to the butterfly wings (she had been drawn in pencil and colored in Photoshop), but since she was someone else's character and had no bearing on the Felicia stories being collected, I was obligated to remove her for the book's cover. This had been a fun piece to do.

Medium: Photoshop
Tags: fox Butterfly magic book felicia vixen.
Sapphire by Chuck Melville

Another old stab at doing pin-ups. I thought this came out rather well, all things considered, but I pretty much gave up doing pin-up stuff (for the most part) soon after this. My work was started to look too much like a Terrie Smith wannabe, and was getting really hit -and-miss at that; Terrie does a much better job of doing Terrie-style pin-ups than I -- I'm more of a story person than a pin-up artist -- so I needed to step away and rethink my approach to that sort of art.

But I still rather liked this one.

Empirical Evidence - 3D by Chuck Melville

The last of my Tai-Pan 3D images. This one was a little trickier. The illustration is from Gene Breshear's story, "Empirical Evidence", and was originally painted in acryllics. Then I scanned the image and transformed it into a useable black & white image for the fanzine. I further tweaked it into a 3D. Probably the least successful of the batch, but everything's a learning experience.

Medium: Acryllic paint, tweaked in Photoshop.
Tags: Tiger SF
Angel Of The Pathways -- 3D by Chuck Melville

Another 3D illustration from the Tai-Pan fanzine; this one was from the story, "Angel Of The Pathways", written by Mark Allen Davis.

Incidentally, I might not have made it clear, but these were not published in 3D; I tweaked them after the fact, for my own amusement.

The Tai-Pan -- in 3D by Chuck Melville

I was always a fan of the old 3D comics, way back before the advent of CGI. So just for the heck of it, I took a black & white illustration I did for the Tai-Pan fanzine and transformed it into a traditional 3D pic. The illustration is from the serialized story, "Anniversary Bash".

Yes, I'm afraid you WILL need a pair of 3D glasses to get the proper effect.

Medium: Penstix and markers line art, digitally tweaked in Photoshop
Tags: 3D Spaceship SF
